Dining Out For Life was created by an ActionAIDS volunteer in Philadelphia. In 1993, ActionAIDS made it an international event offering licenses to AIDS Service Organizations around the country. Since Dining Out for Life International's founding the event has grown throughout North America and is now produced in over 46 cities. Once upon a time, I thought I was an existentialist, but it turns out I’m an Epicurean. Epicurus was a Greek philosopher who is most often associated with the phrase “Eat, Drink and be Merry, for tomorrow you may die.” He’s often misunderstood as a hedonist, but, like me, he was more of sensualist. The difference is important. It means that he believed in experiencing the pleasures life had to offer, but thought that overindulging had consequences.
